Languages and translations
Every label in Infotech POS, in the console, the shop portal and the POS, is stored in the database and can be edited while the platform is running. You do not need a developer or a new release to fix a wording, translate a missing label or rename a menu.
Languages
The platform ships with three languages:
| Language | Direction |
|---|---|
| English | Left to right. English is the fallback: any label missing in another language is shown in English. English cannot be deleted or switched off. |
| Bangla | Left to right |
| Arabic | Right to left. The whole layout flips when a user picks Arabic. |
Users pick their language with the language control on the sign-in and sign-up screens and in the app. The choice applies to that user's screen only.
The Translations page
Open Translations. The page has one tab per area of the app:
- Super admin console: the labels of the console.
- Merchant POS: the labels of the shop portal and the POS.
Each tab shows the number of labels (keys), and under it the Completion of each language, for example "Completion: 92% · 1,840/2,000".
The list shows each Key and its text in every language. A label that has no text in a language shows a Missing badge.
Use the toolbar to find labels:
- Search keys or text... searches both the key and the translated text.
- The All keys list switches to Missing in a language, to show only labels that still need a translation there.
Translate many labels at once
The fastest way to fill in a language is translate mode.
- In the toolbar, open Translate into… and choose a language, for example Arabic.
- The list changes to two columns: English on the left, your language on the right. Only missing is ticked, so you see only labels without a translation.
- Type the translations. Changed rows are highlighted.
- Use Fill empty with English if you want to start from the English text and adjust it.
- Choose Save changes. The button shows how many labels you changed. Discard throws your changes away.
- Close translate mode with the close button. Changes are also saved when you move to another page of the list.
Leave a translation empty to fall back to English.
Edit one label
Click a row (outside translate mode) to open Edit translation. You can change the text in every language and the Description, a note on where the text is used. The key itself cannot be changed.
To remove a label, choose Delete key, then Confirm delete. This deletes the key in every language.
Example: your customers call the "Sales list" page "Invoices". Search for Sales list on the Merchant POS tab, open it, and change the English and Arabic texts. Every shop sees the new name.
Add a label
Choose Add key, choose the Namespace (Super admin console or Merchant POS), type the Key and the texts, and choose Save. You normally only need this when a developer has added a new label to the app that is not yet in the database.
Export and import
- Export JSON downloads all labels of the current tab in one language as a JSON file of
"key": "text"pairs. Send it to a translator, or keep it as a backup. - Import JSON loads such a file: choose the Language and the JSON file. Tick Overwrite existing values to replace texts that already exist; leave it off to fill in only missing ones. Choose Import.
The file must be a single JSON object of "key": "text" pairs.
Your product name in labels
Texts can contain :app, which is replaced by the product name you set in Platform & license › Branding. Keep :app in your translations instead of typing the name, so a later rebrand changes every label at once. See Platform, license and server status.
Good to know
- Changes apply as soon as they are saved. The console reloads its own labels at once; users of the shop portal see changes the next time their screen loads its labels.
- Updates of the platform add new labels but never overwrite texts you have edited.
- Super administrator viewers can browse and export translations but cannot change them.
